The IACS Taxonomy Definition of Terms for ISA/IEC 62443

The ISA Global Cybersecurity Alliance (ISAGCA) recently added to its collection of available resources on the ISA/IEC 62443 Series of Standards, the world's only consensus-based standards for automation cybersecurity.

The Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS) Taxonomy Definition of Terms is a short, two-page .pdf glossary that explains the meaning behind some frequently used terms in the series. It was created to help build a common basis of understanding for anyone reading or seeking to use the 62443 standards. Definitions in the glossary range from the term "IACS" itself, to zones and conduits, to various types of devices that are commonly found in automation cybersecurity-related settings.

ISAGCA's goals include increasing global awareness of the ISA/IEC 62443 Series of Standards, as well as increasing understanding of the contents of the series and their value to the broader automation cybersecurity community. This glossary is part of the organization's outreach efforts in this area.

Other resources created so far include the Quick Start Guide to the ISA/IEC 62443 Series of Standards and a guide to Security Lifecycles in the ISA/IEC 62443 Series of Standards. These in-depth guides are free to download and share with your team upon filling out a form.

For details about ISAGCA's work surrounding the 62443 standards, you're invited to read more on the ISAGCA main site.
